Harry Epworth Allen (1894-1958) was one of the twentieth century's most distinctive interpreters of landscape. His work has an uncanny knack of capturing the essence of a place and ranges from finely drafted plein air pencil drawings through delicate watercolours and pastels to painstakingly crafted studio work in tempera. The publication of the Catalogue of His Works written by John Basford and compiled by the author, David Naylor and Steve Earnshaw of Derwent-Wye Fine Art Ltd coincides with a rising interest in his work. The book was launched in 2009 at Exhibit Gallery, Rowsley and is accompanied by one of the most comprehensive exhibitions of his paintings and drawings since 1959.
